The Tacoma Trailhunter has captured so much attention because it represents a complete shift in how Toyota builds off-road trucks. For years, if you wanted a serious overlanding rig, you had to buy a stock truck, rip half of it apart, and spend thousands on aftermarket parts.
The Trailhunter skips all of that. It is essentially a factory-built, fully warrantied custom overland build straight from the dealership floor.
Some of the updated features include:
Old Man Emu (OME) Suspension: It features 2.5-inch forged monotube position-sensitive shocks with rear remote reservoirs. Unlike the TRD Pro, which is stiffly valved for high-speed desert blasting (Baja style), the OME setup is tuned specifically for carrying heavy camping loads over rough, technical terrain without squeaking or sagging.
Massive Underbody Armor: High-strength steel skid plates shield the engine, transmission, and rear differential right out of the box.
ARB Steel Rear Bumper & Frame-Mounted Rock Sliders: Real, robust protection that can actually take a hit from a rock or log, complete with integrated recovery hooks.
Onboard Air Compressor: Tucked neatly into the truck bed, allowing you to easily air down your tires for traction on the trail and air back up before hitting the highway.
The Trailhunter gets Toyota’s top-tier 2.4L turbocharged four-cylinder hybrid powertrain. It cranks out 326 horsepower and a massive 465 lb-ft of torque at just 1,700 RPM. When you are crawling up a steep, rocky mountain pass or loaded down with hundreds of pounds of gear, that low-end torque is exactly what you want
The High-Mount Air Intake: The factory snorkel sweeping up the A-pillar looks incredibly aggressive. A fun side effect? It sucks air right next to the cabin, meaning you get to hear the turbo spool up and dump boost noise directly into the driver's seat.
Integrated Light Show: It features a heritage "TOYOTA" bronze grille with an integrated LED light bar, plus RIGID Industries fog lights that can switch between white and amber on the fly from a dash button.
The Dashboard Speaker: In a quirky but brilliant move, the center dash speaker is actually a JBL FLEX portable Bluetooth speaker that docks and charges automatically. When you get to camp, you just pop it out and carry the music to the fire.
